When it comes to Peter's nineteenth birthday, Rapunzel, who is usually a very good gift-giver, is kind of at a loss. Last year, he got Rapunzel's virginity. Which wasn't exactly the plan, and she hadn't intended their first time to be some gift she gave him. That isn’t how she views it, either. It all just seemed to happen on the same day and now she has no idea how to top it.
Except that isn't what she's worried about at all. She's nervous about what she wants to ask him, and is trying to pretend that she isn't. That's all this is.
Eventually she settles on a new case for his guitar as the main gift, because his is a worn, secondhand thing. The one she buys is a proper hard case wrapped in brown leather, and she just hopes that he'll like it.
Once the actual day comes, she's nervous. After the East Hollow fiasco, they had decided to have a nice night in, so Rapunzel cooks. She cooks a lot. There is a roast in the oven and a wide array of side dishes, along with a big cake and other offerings for dessert. Just before he's set to come over, she takes a quick shower (without getting her hair wet) and changes into a pale pink dress and a pair of white cotton panties, because she's too nervous to even put on any of the cute lingerie she's bought.
There's a knock on the door, and Rapunzel looks over at the set up in the bedroom one last time before taking a deep breath. Pascal gives her an encouraging squeak as he climbs up onto her shoulder, and she nods.
"Okay, yes, you're right," she says, nodding to herself and shaking out her whole body a little bit. It's just Peter. She loves Peter, and he loves her.
By the time she makes it to the door and pulls it open, she's sunny and smiling, tossing her hair back over one shoulder as she reaches for Peter. "Happy birthday!"
