Rapunzel stands in her doorway with Peter, feeling warm and secure in his arms as he kisses her goodnight. She watches him go, waving as he crosses the courtyard, and then shuts the door to her apartment and locks it.

It's late, so she goes to her room to turn in, but there's someone standing at the foot of her bed. Not just someone, but the last person she would ever want to see again in her life.

"Rapunzel! There's my flower," Gothel says, sauntering over and placing her cold hands on either side of Rapunzel's head while she stands there, too stunned to move. "You were hard to find, child. Now come on, it's time to take you back to the tower."

"No, you can't," Rapunzel gasps out, trying to pull away, but Gothel's fingers dig into her hair and grip tightly. "You can't take me anywhere."

"Oh, but I can," Gothel tells her, and suddenly they're out in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by dry grass that glows silver in the moonlight. "Things are changing, Rapunzel. You have no idea."

The ground rumbles beneath them and Rapunzel gasps as sharp black spikes push up from the ground, gleaming in the moonlight and forming a circle around them. Her hair glows and she screams because it has never hurt like this, like she's being ripped apart, and Gothel keeps laughing and pulling on her hair as the rocks grow sharper and get closer.

"Time to come home, Rapunzel!" Gothel cackles and Rapunzel screams, and screams, and--

And then she wakes up.

Her hair is wrapped around her face, glowing golden and she screams as she claws at it, heart pounding as she tries to suck in a breath. It was a dream, just a dream. It had to be.
